SANDMAN PRESENTS: THESSALY — WITCH FOR HIRE, a 4-issue miniseries
with art by Shawn McManus (THE SANDMAN: A GAME OF YOU, THE THESSALIAD)
and covers by poster artist Tara McPherson.
Thessaly
— the deadliest of the ancient Thessalian witches — finds herself pitted
against a foe she may not be able to defeat: Cupid, along with an ancient
and unstoppable monster (or ten) thrown in for good measure. An eerily
familiar stranger has been hiring Thess out as a demon killer, but taking
all the profits and fame for the monster killings without any of the hard
work. Will he survive the consequences once Thess learns the truth? Or
will the ruthlessly practical witch finally succumb to the power of love?

It
was 1971, and the political landscape was marked by Vietnam, the Black
Panthers, and more. College students joined activist groups like the Weathermen
to bring about social change — by force if necessary. Now, 30 years later,
the dream is dead, and someone’s killing former Weathermen for forgetting
their ideals. But in a mystery filled with shifting politics and former
allegiances, where does Human Target Christopher Chance — a man searching
for his own identity — fit in?
Hot
off his lauded work on VERTIGO’s BEWARE THE CREEPER, artist Cliff Chiang
marks his second issue of HUMAN TARGET with issue #7,
the first installment of “Which Way the Wind Blows.” The 3-part storyline
is fan-favorite writer Peter Milligan’s most ambitious tale yet, as he
examines the radical politics of the ’70s against the values of today.
HUMAN
TARGET is an ongoing VERTIGO series edited by Karen Berger and is suggested
for mature readers. The 32-page issue # 7 is scheduled to arrive in comic-book
stores on February 18 with a cover price of $2.95 U.S.

VERTIGO’S
latest hit series — and one of the best-reviewed launches of the year
— gets its first trade paperback collection with THE LOSERS: ANTE
UP. Written by Andy Diggle and illustrated by Jock — two of the
hottest young talents in all of comics — ANTE UP collects the first six
issues of the hard-hitting new crime/espionage series that mixes real-world
scenarios with widescreen action.
Once,
the Losers were an elite U.S. Special Forces unit, sent to do the dirty,
bloody deeds no one else could handle. They played the game like they
had nothing to lose — until the CIA tried to have them killed for accidentally
uncovering a very dark secret. The team was set up for liquidation by
the very people they had sworn allegiance to -- but it takes more than
one try to eliminate the Losers, and now they're back for some serious
payback. Don’t miss this chance to get up to speed on the hottest new
series of the year.
And
in THE LOSERS #9, don’t miss the first installment in
the 5-part “Island Life,” which takes the team to the Caribbean in search
of a major piece of the puzzle that will blow the lid on the CIA’s un-American
activities. But the agency has a mystery agent known as Max preparing
a counter-attack, which will turn the Losers’ simple village raid into
a mountain of trouble.

project is supported with house ads.
