The prequel to the hot new VERTIGO series
FABLES: THE LAST CASTLE

Click For Larger Image     It's been a terrific first year for FABLES, with sell-out issues, acclaim from critics and readers alike, a pair of popular trade paperbacks, and four Eisner Award nominations. Now, as enthusiasm for the series continues to grow, we find out how — and why — the fairy tale characters were forced out of their homelands in FABLES: THE LAST CASTLE.

FABLES: THE LAST CASTLE is a 48-page Prestige Format VERTIGO Special that provides a prequel to the FABLES series. Deftly written by series creator Bill Willingham and exquisitely rendered by Eisner Award-winning SANDMAN artist P. Craig Russell (The Ring of the Nibelung, WONDER WOMAN) & Craig Hamilton (LUCIFER, THE SPECTRE), THE LAST CASTLE also offers a key entry point for new readers, as it tells the official backstory of the beloved Fabletown cast.

Through Little Boy Blue, Deputy Mayor Snow White's assistant, we learn of the great war that forced Bigby Wolf, Prince Charming and Bluebeard to leave their homeland in search of a safe haven. As the battle rages, we meet a mysterious woman in red, and learn why Boy Blue only plays the blues on his trumpet. Robin Hood, the Crow Brothers, the Red Cross Knight, Rapunzel, and others guest star in this haunting, bittersweet masterpiece that no FABLES fan — or anyone who’s been intrigued by the series’ strong word-of-mouth — can afford to miss.

This project is supported with trade and house ads.

FABLES: THE LAST CASTLE is a 48-page Prestige Format VERTIGO Special edited by Shelly Bond. It is suggested for mature readers and arrives in comic-book stores September 24 with a cover price of $5.95 U.S.
